My students are learning to code in 3D. They want to use the emitter as a sonar for an ROV; is this possible? They have tried to place the 3D emitter blocks under the add drone blocks. They have also tried to start the emitter when the space bar is pressed. Once the emitter starts, the ROV does not work when pressing the handle keys, and the emitter freezes. I love their enthusiasm; any help would be appreciated.

@flores-yorkshireacademy Maybe, maybe not. Wait for @info-creaticode to get on, he/she can probably help you.

The Creaticode AI in the create section can help a lot with this. That is how I learned background scrolling and gravity blocks. It will sometimes show you a visual example of the blocks you need.

            Hi Kathleen,

It is not clear what your students are trying to do. If you can share an example project, we can try to help modify it.

For a generic explanation, to make anything glow, it has to have emission colors. By default the models don’t have emission colors (they only have diffusion colors), so they won’t glow. However, we can update the models to add emission colors to them.

Note that the “update color” block requires you to specify an “area”, which can be up to 4 parts of the model, and the meaning of each area is different depending on the specific model (you will have to try them to find out). Here is more information on that block:

How do I share with you? Their model is an underwater ROV. The handle keys work fine, the ROV moves as it should with the defined handle keys. They would like to add an emitter so when they press the space bar, it looks like sonar rings. When pressing the space bar to activate the emitter, sonar type rings appear. However, then the defined handle keys do not move the ROV. They have to refresh the URL before they can try again to see what might work.

For anyone interested, here is a demo of using emitters to emulate sonar waves:
