Can't get remote edit to work
-
Hey Folks, I am a teacher and I’m trying to make it so my programming students can collaboratively create Scratch-like apps. Creaticode offers remote edit, but I can’t get it to work. It seems like I’ve tried everything. I had two students each login. One created project and Shared it (we tried both as unlisted and as a friend). We were able to email the unlisted link to the other student and they were able to click on the link and See Inside the project and they were able to Request to Edit. The original student then accepted the request. But then the remote student could not see any edits that the original student was making. The hint that something was wrong was that the original student was still working on the draft project but the remote student had red buttons at the top of the screen that said 1.0.0 (Published) and Read-Only. We tried many different things but could never make it so that both students could edit the same project at the same time.
On a side issue, I had one student add the other student as a friend. He could see the friend’s account, but he could never see the project that the original student Shared with Friends. We went into the remote students My Stuff and there were no shared projects listed there. He went into the original student’s page and there were no shared projects there.
It seems to me that Remote Edit is just broken (and maybe friend sharing too?). If it is broken, please let us know. If it is working, I could use some docs on how to troubleshoot.
One last note. I tried to duplicate remote edit on my own teacher computer. I logged in to two different chrome browsers and tried sharing a project with my other chrome profile and I had the same problem as described above.

Have you tried so that the person that made the project is on version 1.0.0, or the latest version?
-
This will be fixed later today. The issue is that recently we switched to a new versioning system, so the owner is editing the “draft” version while the guest can only see the shared version.

@info-creaticode Awesome! Thank you so much!

This problem has been resolved now. Please reshare the project then try again.

@info-creaticode Still not working for me. I have two Chrome browsers side by side. Each with a separate user profile/Google account. In the one, I share the project. I wait for approval. I copy the link. In the remote account, I paste the link. I then See inside both projects. And I Request to Edit in the remote project. I approve the request to edit and I still only see the Published project in the remote window and I cannot edit. Also, it seems like we may have taken a step backward. Yesterday when it tried this I was able to see the remote editor in the original project. Today, after I approve the Edit request, the remote editor does not even show up in the list of those editing the original project.

@info-creaticode I have good news and bad news. I got better results today. I was able to get 3 students to be able to remotely edit at the same time. I did do something different. The project that I shared was in a class in a studio and all 3 students were enrolled in the class.
On the bad side, the remote editing broke at some point. I have to apologize because I had a lot going on and wasn’t really able to collect much data. I’m not sure exactly what broke and/or why. I think the kids added some code and then it disappeared. Let me try again on Monday and I’ll get you more info.
And, on a side note, the remote edit was a bit laggy. We are located in California. I hate to complain about something we’re getting for free. I am hoping that my feedback is taken in the spirit it was intended- to be part of the solution.

No need to appologize. We appreciate the feedback. We did make some additional improvements earlier today, but it might still not be reliable.
To ensure success, we suggest the students do the following:
- Owner student: save the project, and then share it, then click “See Inside”.
- Guest student: open the shared project page, click “See Inside”, the send the remote edit request.
If this is not working, please provide a screenshot and time of the day, and we will check our log to find more information about what’s the issue.
The server is in US East but it should still work well for CA.

@info-creaticode Thank you so much! I may try this on my own computer just to test this out. If it’s stable, I’ll try it with my students on Monday.
