    Introduction

“Co-edit” lets up to 4 people work on the same project at the same time, each on their own computer. When one person adds a block or changes a value, everyone else sees the change right away, just like editing a Google Doc together.

The project owner starts a session and gets a 4-digit code. Up to 3 other friends type that code to join. That’s it!

Step 1: The owner starts a session

Open your project in the editor (it must be saved first). Click the “Edit” menu at the top, then click “Start co-edit session”.

Only the owner of the project sees this option.

Step 2: Give the code to your friends

A window pops up with your 4-digit code. The code is also copied to your clipboard, so you can paste it into a chat or email. Click “OK” to close the window.

The code stays the same for the whole session, so friends can join at any time while it is running. You can always find it again in the top bar (see Step 4). Once the session ends, the code stops working.

Step 3: Friends join with the code

Each friend logs in, opens the account menu at the top right, and clicks “Join Remote Session”.

Then they type the 4-digit code and click “Join”. The project opens in their editor automatically. They do not need to find the project first.

Step 4: The co-edit bar at the top

While a session is active, an orange co-edit bar appears at the top of the editor:

    • “Co-edit (6171)” shows the session’s code that others can use to join.
    • Click the people button (for example “2 users”) to see who is in the session. The owner has a crown icon.
    • “End”: the owner can click this button to close the session for all.
    • “Exit”: the guests can exit the session by clicking this button, and the others (owner and other guests) will remain in the session.

    Step 5: Saving the project

Only the owner can save the project. Everyone’s changes are updated at the owner’s computer, so they are all saved when the owner saves:

    • Press Ctrl+S (or Cmd+S on a Mac), or use the “File” menu.
    • The editor also saves automatically from time to time.

    Friends cannot save the project.

“Restore snapshot” in the “File” menu (going back to an earlier saved version) is not available while a co-edit session is running. End the session first if you need to restore the project to a previously saved snapshot.

Step 6: End or exit the session

    • The owner clicks “End” to end the session for everyone.
    • A friend clicks “Exit” to leave. They are taken back to their “My Stuff” page, and the session continues for the others.
    • If nobody makes any change for 10 minutes, the session ends on its own.
    • When a session ends, its invitation code stops working. The owner can start a new session at any time, which gives a new code.
